Guna people
Guna
The Guna are a living Indigenous people with communities in Panama and Colombia. In Gunayala, local communities and General Congresses exercise defined governance roles; Gaigirgordub/El Porvenir is an administrative reference point and not a capital for every Guna community.
Geografia histórica, organização e continuidade cultural
Territórios históricos de origem e redes regionais
Guna histories connect Caribbean islands, mainland forests, and routes across what are now Panama and Colombia. Modern comarca and national borders are legal geographies, not a complete cultural map.
Governação e organização política
Gunayala governance includes community congresses, sailagan, and General Congress institutions within Panama's comarca framework. Guna communities elsewhere have their own authorities and legal settings; the structures are related but not interchangeable.
Instituições contemporâneas e contexto identitário
Guna institutions sustain community assemblies, education, political representation, language, mola arts, environmental stewardship, and urban networks. The authority to define membership remains with relevant communities and governments.
Their mandates are specific to Guna political structures and cannot be generalized beyond them.
National residence and political jurisdiction do not by themselves define Guna identity.
The point is not a boundary or universal Guna capital.
