Abstract

Summary of the research findings

A genetic transect through time in the crossroads of central and eastern Europe, analyzing 117 genomes from ancient individuals dated 4,000-700 BCE and 298 BCE-1000 CE from the North Pontic region, reveals that the millenia following the steppe expansion were dynamic. We observe impacts from the Baltic region to the south beginning ∼2,800 BCE, migration from Central Europe that accompanied the spread of the Trzciniec Complex, and movement from Central Asia that accompanied the appearance of Scythians.
